Michelin Star awarded to malta’s newest hotel restaurant

Iniala Harbour House & Residences, Malta’s newest hotel opening, has won a much coveted Michelin Star in its stunning restaurant ION – The Harbour. The Executive Magazine speak to Executive Chef Andrew Borg.

ION – The Harbour, receives its first Michelin Star within less than six months of opening. Coupled with the recent news that Malta is set to reopen to UK visitors, this is a fantastic reason to visit the stunning region of Valetta this summer.

Set on the rooftop of the stunning Iniala Harbour House & Residences on St Barbara Bastions, Valletta, ION – The Harbour has taken gastronomy to new levels on the Maltese Islands, offering guests an outstanding fine dining experience through a combination of exceptional cuisine, perfectly paired premium wines, stellar service, innovative design and spectacular views of the Grand Harbour. ION – The Harbour’s menus are constantly evolving to ensure that quality is priority, as they source the very best produce depending on the climate and time of year.

Iniala’s world-class hospitality was brought to Malta last year with the opening of ION – The Harbour and Iniala Harbour House and Residences, which is hotelier and philanthropist Mark Weingard’s second hotel. His first hotel, the award-winning Iniala Beach House in Thailand, has been recognised globally for its exceptional levels of art, design, service, gastronomy and philanthropy, and Iniala Harbour House and Residences aims to follow suit.

The team at ION – The Harbour, headed by the talented local chefs Andrew Borg and Kurt Micallef who were handpicked by Weingard himself, have had their hearts set on receiving a Michelin Star since the restaurant’s opening in November 2020.

“Since ION – The Harbour’s inception, we have poured all our passion, energy, and talent into providing the very best gastronomic experience for every diner that passes through our doors. We are honoured and delighted to know that such a prestigious entity has recognised our efforts, and we look forward to continuing to delight our guests at ION – The Harbour,” – Executive Chef Andrew Borg.

Established in the late 19th century, Michelin awarded its first star in 1926 and has since continued to recognise some of the greatest cuisines around the world. The much-coveted Michelin Star is considered an authentic hallmark of exceptional fine dining since Michelin inspectors are among the few who remain anonymous when reviewing a restaurant.
